Sebastian Ambrose Lasher passed away in his home in McLean, VA. on March 5th, 2018. He was 86. Seb was a graduate of West Point and served in the army for 20 years. During his military career, he taught electrical engineering and nuclear physics at West Point; was a veteran of the Vietnam war; served on a Presidential Task Force and then in the Office of Telecommunications Policy, Executive Office of the President. He received 2 Legion of Merits, among other awards for achievement. Seb retired from the military as a Lt. Colonel and then accepted a position as Engineering Assistant to the Commissioner of the FCC for 6 years. He went on to become Deputy Director at INTELSAT until he retired in 1992.
Seb was married to Sandy Lasher for 42 years who predeceased him in 1996. He is survived by their 2 children, Robert Dale Lasher (Cheri) and Alison Vaughan (Archa); his current wife Betsy Libbey Lasher, and her 2 children Miles Libbey (Ann) and Megan Kinnane (Mark). Seb also has a loving family of 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces and dear friends.
A significant part of Seb’s life was being an active member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder for many years. Seb was a commanding leader and will be fondly remembered for his strong will, high character and immense love of the beach. For all who knew him, a giant has truly left the earth.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 24th at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 1125 Savile Lane, McLean, Virginia 22101. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Seb’s memory.
