Obituary

Mr. Rodger H, Hicks passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 30th, 2019 at Goodwin House, where he was a resident. He was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania and lived most of his life in Arlington, Va. He had three sisters, Miriam Bracco (deceased), Loree Murphy and Leah Yost (Bob). A brother, Eric Hicks, predeceased him. He will be greatly missed by thirteen nieces and nephews: Janine Dempsey, Bruce Bracco, Liane Lewis, Sharon O'Neill, Kathleen Schungle, Sheila Kepner, Barry McGuane, Mark McGuane, Cathy Nagle, Jennifer Hencey, Bob Yost, Stephen Hicks and Tacha Champod. He cherished them, as well as their spouses and children, as his own.

Rodger graduated from California Teachers' College and had a master's degree in Industrial Education from the University of Maryland. After serving his country honorably in the army, he taught at Wakefield High School in Arlington. He excelled at making beautiful jewelry, leather and woodworking projects. Photography was a hobby of his. His beautiful tenor voice was a fixture at many weddings and choral productions. He loved driving his red convertible. In the glory days of the Redskins he was a faithful fan, and he really never gave up on them. Rodger enjoyed the many years he volunteered as an usher at the Kennedy Center. His family will treasure the memories of days at his beach house in Bethany. It was the gathering place for friends and his family which will long be remembered.

A Memorial service will be held at Goodwin House on May 11th at 2 P.M. A ceremony in his honor with a scattering of his ashes will be held at Bethany Beach in August
