Olive “Marie” Haas, known as “Marie” by most who knew her, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Marie was born to Leo and Mildred Phelps, on March 31, 1923. Shortly after birth, Mildred died due to birth complications, and her sister Florence took Marie in and raised her to adulthood. Marie finished High School and got a job at Allied Paper Company. She worked there until she met the man she would marry, March Haas. They were married June 26, 1945, they adopted two children, Marcia born October 30, 1952 and Marcel, born December 14,1956. Marie enjoyed being a housewife and raising their two children. She had many friends, enjoyed playing Bunco, and loved bowling. Marie moved to Springfield, Virginia to live with her youngest daughter, after suffering from two separate strokes. She lived with Marcel until her dementia progressed and her health required that she enter a Memory Care facility. She then moved to a home designed specifically for adults with advanced dementia where she passed away surrounded by friends and family.
