Mary Falvey Savage, 94, passed away peacefully on October 3rd 2019, at her home at Braddock Glen in Fairfax, Virginia. She was born on March 16, 1925 in Camden, New York to Mary and Edward Falvey. In death, she joins her five siblings Edward Falvey, Alice Shafer, Betty Loughan, Helen Fitzgerald and Joan McPhearson.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Scott of Alexandria, grandson Douglas and wife Tracey Scott, 3 great grandchildren Ryan, Taylor and Camryn, all of Alexandria, and many nieces and nephews from upstate New York.
Mary enjoyed a full and active life growing up in the Utica, New York area. She also lived many years in Plattsburgh, NY where she worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and the Plattsburgh Air Force Base. She loved the Adirondacks where she enjoyed skiing in the winter and lots of beach time in the summer on Lake Champlain. From there she moved to New Orleans where she spent 15 years as a successful real estate agent. While in New Orleans she perfected her cooking skills, learned and loved to fish, and became an avid card player. In 1985, she moved to Alexandria to be close to her daughter, grandson and great-grandchildren, the joys of her life. She was a frequent babysitter to her great grandchildren when they young, and then a devoted fan at their swim meets, baseball and hockey games and cheerleading competitions.
She lived at the Morris Glen Senior Apartments in Alexandria for 13 years before moving to Braddock Glen. At Morris Glen she worked in the office until she was 90, organized and played cards 3 times a week and was a member of St. Lawrence Church in Franconia.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 29, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2907 Popkins Ln., Alexandria, VA, 22306.
