George Michael ("Mick") Stalun, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019. Mick was born August 12, 1956 to George and Dorothy Stalun and was a 1974 (honorary) graduate of Reavis High School in Burbank, IL. Mick is survived by brother Jerry (Carol) Stalun, sister Judy (Pete) Knutel and brother, Tom (Tammy) Stalun. Mick was the beloved Uncle to Dan (Natalie) Stalun, Keri (Joseph) Toner, Tony (Lauren) Tryonis, Nicole Knutel, Tanner, Kincade, Hudson, Anastyn and Brielle Stalun and Great Uncle to Reagan Stalun. Mick is preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Stalun and sister Christine Stalun.
Mick was active in Boy Scouts growing up, achieving its highest honor, Eagle Scout, at a very young age. He also enjoyed sports, student council and academics during his years at Kennedy grammar and Reavis High schools. Just prior to his high school graduation, Mick suffered a traumatic brain injury during a routine medical procedure, which then prevented him from pursuing his ambitions of attending University of Illinois' chemistry/pharmacy curriculum, as well as the normal path of adulthood. Notwithstanding, Mick accepted his plight in life with a humbleness and joy that is to be admired. He will be remembered for his smile and loving nature that "lit up rooms". His common words were always: "I want to help those who are less fortunate than me!"
Mick spent much of adult life with his loving family as caregivers, then his next home at Annandale Village (Suwanee, GA) for adults with developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries, and finally his home at Mount Vernon Healthcare Center (Alexandria, VA), the last year of his life, after being diagnosed with colon cancer.
Memorial Services and Celebration of the life of Mick Stalun will be held at Old Presbyterian Meeting House (OPMH) in Alexandria, VA, Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11:00am ET, and at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Burbank, IL, Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 10:30am CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mick's name to Annandale Village https://annandale.org/tribute-memorial-gifts/
