Estrella V. Vasilescu passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at her brother German Vanegas’s home in Woodbridge, VA, on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 6:20 AM. She was born on January 12, 1931 in Santa Marta, Colombia where she attended the Instituto Magdalena de Sta. Marta. In 1964 she immigrated to the United States and lived in Baltimore, MD where she married her husband Valerio Vasilescu. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose I. Vanegas and Edelmira Vanegas Silva, her husband Valerio and one brother Jose Ignacio Vanegas.
After working as an engineering technician for 25 years at Greiner Engineering Company in Baltimore, she moved with her husband to Woodbridge to be near her brother German Vanegas. Her surviving siblings are Cielo Meyer of Barranquilla; German Vanegas of Woodbridge, VA; Jaime Alberto Vanegas of Bogota; and Carlos Adolfo Vanegas of Marbella, Spain.
Estrella was a beloved sister to her siblings, her sister-in-law Renate G. Vanegas and a doting aunt to Sonia Monson, Alexander Vanegas and Cito Vanegas of Woodbridge and Arlington, VA. Other nieces and nephews who are left to cherish her memories are, Estrella Vanegas B. of Barranquilla, Colombia; Enrique, Katia and German Vanegas of Santa Marta, Colombia; Omayra, Herbert, Winfrind and Lihizzy Vanegas of Barranquilla, Colombia; Gina Meyer of Leche, Italy and Erika Meyer Hickman of Melbourne, Australia; Nacho, Gogi, Estrella and Sandra Vanegas of Bogota, Colombia; and Ede, Virna, Geranimo and Dalet Vanegas of Marbella Spain.
She will be placed to rest in a private ceremony on Saturday, June 8, 2019 next to her husband at the Oakhill Memorial Garden in Fredericksburg, VA.
