Betty (Burr) Scott passed away peacefully on April 5, 2018 from complications arising from a stroke at Capital Caring hospice. Per her wishes, there will be no services; her ashes will be scattered off San Diego, California at a later date.
Mrs. Scott was born on October 31, 1930 in Plymouth, North Carolina to Mary and Walter Burr. She was raised in Evanston, Illinois attending both Evanston Township High School and Northwestern University. She moved with her mother and children to her adopted hometown of San Diego, California in 1970; beginning a career in real estate escrow services, rising to Certified Senior Escrow Officer working for multiple title companies and Grossmont Bank in the San Diego area. She is past President of the San Diego County Escrow Association and was active with the California Escrow Association’s Professional Designation Committee. She taught courses in Escrow at San Diego City and Mesa Community Colleges.
Upon her retirement in 2000, she moved to Arlington, Virginia to be close to her daughters. She worked part-time with a local real estate office, served on the home owners association for her condominium community and volunteered at the local animal shelter. Betty loved movies, theatre and reading. After retirement she learned to use the computer and enjoyed Facebook, Candy Crush and other online games. She actually taught her daughters how to use online banking and was the first in the family on Twitter.
She is survived by her children, Diane P Scott, Washington, DC; Michael B Scott, San Diego, CA; and Heather L. Scott, Springfield, VA.
